Pretty in pink: Annabel's new ladies powder room is a floral phantasia
Ailis Brennan13 June 2018

Can anyone resist a bathroom selfie?

No matter how you're looking, the important thing is to make sure the backdrop can keep up with your selfie game.

Whether you’re powdering your nose or spending a penny or two, do it in one of the most beautifully decorated loos in the capital.

Sketch

There is something pretty extraterrestrial about Sketch’s famous “egg” loos. Sitting as individual cubicle pods under an upside-down-disco-floor on the ceiling, hatching out of one of these is a Stanley Kubrick-worthy moment.

Annabel’s

Annabel’s pretty-in-pink ladies powder room is the newest bathroom on a rather lovely block. The legendary club recently moved down the road to 46 Berkeley Square, meaning a stunning revamp that is all over Instagram. This room features hand blown Venetian glass light fittings and oodles of silk flowers.

Park Chinois

When it comes to knock-your-socks-off opulence, few rival Park Chinois. This Chinese restaurant draws on the glamorous dining rooms of 1930s Shanghai for its decor and Art Deco exactitude meets Asian flare in these spectacular bathrooms. You won’t forget to wash your hands once you’ve seen the golden swan taps.

The Ned

The bustling but sophisticated Ned fills out the grandiose hall of a former bank, all columns and mahogany counters. The bathroom, however is a much more intimate affair. So intimate, in fact, that it features a three-person kissing seat.

Nopi

If you thought Yotam Ottolenghi’s food was filled with all the fun of the fair, wait until you see the bathrooms at his flagship restaurant. A hall of mirrors greets diners in the Nopi toilets. Bar the gold and marble details, every surface is panelled with reflective glass, reflecting the room infinitely. Remember which way you came in or you might have trouble getting out.

Hutong

Bathroom views simply don’t get better than those 30-something floors up the Shard – who doesn’t like to do their business while looking down on a few million Londoners? Hutong, the Sichuan restaurant on level 33, combines these spectacular views with stunning interiors. The restaurant is decorated throughout with antique wooden panels salvaged from Chinese cities and the bathroom is no exception.

The Hunter S

The Hunter S likes its toilets dirty – though we're not talking about hygiene. This Dalston pub features some unusual tinkle-side entertainment in the form of vintage Playboy and Playgirl prints mounted on the wall. In the gents, you can peruse these offerings while relieving yourself into a urinal shaped like a lipsticked mouth. Whether you’re repulsed or tickled by the idea, you have to see it to believe it.

Claridge’s

Around the world, Claridge’s has a reputation that signifies elegance, luxury and quality – and it’s one that doesn’t stop with the bogs. The ladies bathroom at the restaurant transports visitors into an art deco nirvana, decorated with a powder blue sky and palm tree mural, offset with rich and beautifully grained wooden surfaces.

Tonight Josephine

Everyone loves a scroll through the showbiz pages while on the seat – but why limit that habit to the cubicle? A girl power glitterbomb of a bar, Tonight Josephine carries its millennial pink theme through to the bathrooms, where the Ladies and Gents toilets are signalled by the mugshots of Lindsay Lohan and Justin Bieber.
