The Star Tavern was built for the household servants of the nobility. There were plenty of both in 19th-century Belgravia so the Star had to be a big pub to cater for the thirsty masses. There's a saloon bar, private bar, public bar and snug - and the butlers, valets, footmen and coachmen understood exactly which bit was for them and which was not. It belongs to London brewer Fuller, Smith & Turner so it's Fuller's championship-winning ales all round and that's all right. And the food is a big draw: good old-fashioned English food. The Great Train Robbers planned their deed in this pub and Christine Keeler held secret trysts with John Profumo here. You can book a table near one of the open fireplaces on winter evenings.
