What's new in the world of restaurants

  • Old-timers will remember Zetter's as a football pools company. Come to think of it, they're probably the only people who remember football pools. The Zetter building on the Clerkenwell Road has just emerged from a makeover as a sharp new 59-bedroom 'urban inn', with an 80-seat restaurant on the ground floor. Megan Jones is in charge (she was most recently at Moro), and her menu is modern Italian --deep-fried anchovies, chard and pancetta ravioli, roast veal chops with Parma ham.
  • Zetter Restaurant, 86-88 Clerkenwell Road, EC1 (020-7324 4455).
  • The Crazy Bear Thai restaurant and bar on Whitfield Street was scheduled to open at the end of March, so, if all has gone well, at least six Thai chefs will already be plying their trade. The restaurant is a sibling of the Crazy Bear restaurant and hotel in Oxfordshire.

One of London's better Sardinian restaurants, Sardo on Grafton Way, is to open a second establishment, Sardo Canale, near the canal on Gloucester Avenue in Primrose Hill. If all goes to schedule, the new restaurant will open mid-April. Expect modestly priced, authentic Sardinian dishes.

  • Sardo Canale, 42 Gloucester Avenue, NW1 (020-7722 2800).
