Where to dine on a detox

Score some health points in January.
10 April 2012

If one of your New Year's resolutions was to ditch the junk food and switch to more healthy alternatives,

Charles Campion
Ed Sullivan

Hummus Bros
88 Wardour Street, W1
A small and eccentric new restaurant that is, as its name suggests, fixated on hummus. It has a cheerful atmosphere and is not too expensive. If your resolution includes a detox period and plainer food this is the place. £6pp ex-drinks. (020 7734 1311)

Neal's Yard Salad Bar
1,2, 8 & 10, Neal's Yard WC2
This friendly café is located on both sides of Neal's Yard. It offers some very good salads for wholesome eating - just the place to score some health points. Beware, though, as it closes early, at 9pm. £12pp ex-drinks. (020 7836 3233)

Woodlands
37 Panton Street, SW1
Here's a genuine, very friendly, very cheap and very Indian vegetarian restaurant. Part of a chain, this branch offers healthy eating at the heart of the West End. £12pp ex-drinks. (020 7839 7258)

THREE NEWCOMERS By Edward Sullivan

Cecconi's
5 Burlington Gardens, W1
This long-established bar and restaurant was recently taken over by the Soho House group and has been hobbling along with service difficulties ever since. But the design of the place, with its large island bar and spacious restaurant, is unashamedly upmarket and worth a look. (020 7434 1500)

Bentley's
11-15 Swallow Street, W1
The ground-floor oyster bar at Richard Lindsay's new venture offers terrific seafood and wonderful cocktails in an environment redolent of a New York-style bar. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and it's a terrific place to impress a date. (020 7734 4756)

Kilo
3-5 Mill Street, W1
Soren Jessen, who gave us Noble Rot, is behind the new incarnation of these West End premises. On the ground floor there is a French bistro-style food operation, but the basement is where you'll find the late-night action, with a DJ, dancefloor, good cocktail list and a 3am licence.
