Where to eat Cuban

10 April 2012

Music, food, cigars: Floridita, Cuba Libre and La Bodeguita del Medio all bring a taste of Cuban life to the capital, says Charles Campion.

Floridita
100 Wardour Street, W1
This huge restaurant occupies the space that was formerly Mezzo and pays homage to all things Cuban - the music, the food and the large cigars. Expect lively times and a bill that can creep upwards. £30pp ex-drinks. (020 7314 4000)

Cuba Libre
72 Upper Street Islington N1

Cuba Libre is a buzzy bar/restaurant with an engagingly laid back atmosphere. The tapas menu provides good snacky fuel but is not available at the weekend. No matter - this place offers good value all round. £15pp ex-drinks. (020 7354 9998)

La Bodeguita del Medio
47 Kensington Court, W8

At this Kensington newcomer there are plenty of references to its Cuban namesake. Good mojitos, fat cigars, and although the dishes are somewhat tamed, the braised short ribs with cassava chips is excellent. £30pp ex-drinks. (020 7938 4147)
