An aerialist hangs suspended from a huge hot air balloon to perform acrobatics over the Thames to promote the opening of the new Ivy brasserie — in what is thought to be the first stunt of its kind in London.

The brasserie, the latest Ivy spin-off, opened last week on the South Bank close to Potters Field park. It is part of a new Berkeley Homes development, One Tower Bridge.

Similar to the Ivy’s Chelsea Garden brasserie on the King’s Road, the new 8,000sq ft venue is also near the new 900-seat Bridge Theatre, run by Sir Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr, which is opening in October.

One Tower Bridge is a mixed-use development of more than 400 apartments and retail, leisure and cultural space as well as a boutique hotel, the LaLIT, in the Grade II listed St Olave’s building located off Tooley Street.

Caprice Holdings last month sold the freehold of the building where the original, iconic Ivy restaurant in Covent Garden is located to Standard Life for £40 million.

It opened in 1917 and hosted actors and theatregoers alike. Famous diners have included Laurence Olivier and Vivien Leigh and, in more recent times, Damian Lewis and Angelina Jolie.

Visitors to the new brasserie, with interiors designed by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, can see the Thames from tables on the terrace or through floor to ceiling windows from inside the restaurant.
