Yauatcha Broadgate Circle: Decadent dim sum in the City

This Taipei-inspired tea house in the City comes from a particularly impressive gastronomic stable - that of Alan Yau.

He’s the man who started both the Wagamama and Busaba Eathai chains as well as high-end Chinese restaurant group Hakkasan, with Turkish pizza restaurant Pide, Chinese gastropub The Duck & Rice, and decadent Chinese restaurant and bar Park Chinois among more recent openings.

More than 15 years after the launch of the original Yauatcha in Soho, the restaurant is still at the cutting-edge of premium dim-sum, and this offshoot brings the same oriental finery to the Square Meal.

Delicate scallop shui mai, crispy duck-filled pumpkin puffs, flaky venison puffs, and mushroom and black truffle spring rolls are among the savoury high points, while many flock for the brightly-coloured macarons and intricate chocolates and patisserie.

The tea list is unrivalled, but sake, wines and cocktails are also on hand for those seeking something stronger.
