You can get free cider in Hackney next weekend

Hackney restaurant The Vincent will be giving away free cider next weekend in celebration of the fifth anniversary of Ciderdog — the UK’s largest free cider festival.

The restaurant and bar will hand out 100 bottles of boozy apple juice to customers on July 8, and not one of them will be the same.

The site already boasts a large range of ciders on draught and in bottle, and co-founders Charles Ross, Richard Temple and Jamie Hempseed will be adding to the line-up to bring the total to over a hundred.

This range will include ciders from 200-year-old Somerset-based family producers Sheppys, Manchester-based Moss Cider, Kentish Pip and London Glider which uses excess apples from suburban gardens.

There will be ciders which are dry, sweet, very strong and slightly less so, flavoured with passion fruit or pineapple, and infused with chilli or ginger.

What's more, customers on the day will be able to take their pick from this vast selection alongside The Vincent’s all-day brunch menu which features baked eggs, waffles and buns.

The first hundred people ordering a dish from the brunch menu will receive a bottle completely free.

Co-founder Richard Temple said: “The last few years have seen a huge boost in the popularity of craft beer and now it’s the hour for the humble cider. We’re delighted to be showcasing the depth of flavours and styles available in Britain.”

The ciderdog preview will take place at The Vincent across July 8, while the fifth Ciderdog festival will be held one week later on July 15 at sister pub The Miller near London Bridge. Entry will be free, and all pints at Ciderdog will cost £3.50.
