Stars of the hit musical School Of Rock entertained crowds in Trafalgar Square to raise money for the Evening Standard’s Help A Hungry Child Christmas appeal.

Cast members of the West End show, which is based on the 2003 film starring Jack Black, performed Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You yesterday.

“The Felix Project is such a great cause for us to support this festive season,” said Jessica Koravos, president of the Really Useful Group, which produces the show. “We hope Londoners and those attending School Of Rock this season will dig deep and give what they can to help end poverty in the capital.”

In addition to yesterday’s outdoor show, cast and crew will raise money with bucket collections after their performances at the New London Theatre between Boxing Day and New Year.

This Christmas, the Evening Standard is raising money for The Felix Project, the food poverty charity founded by the Standard’s chairman, Justin Byam Shaw.

With money raised from the Help A Hungry Child appeal, the charity hopes to ensure that no primary school child in London goes to bed hungry. Exclusive research has shown that one in 10 families in London are relying on food banks and charity handouts to make sure they have enough to eat.

Kristina Spindler, head of fundraising at The Felix Project, said: “We all love School Of Rock, and we’re delighted the cast have taken time to generously support our appeal.

“Our appeal is supplying young people with food that will provide energy to help them follow their dreams.”
