The former Oxfordshire home of author and playwright JB Priestley is for sale.

The Yorkshire-born author of An Inspector Calls, who died in 1984, started writing The Good Companions, his most celebrated novel, while living in the 5,000sq ft house in the pretty village of Church Hanborough in 1928.

The six-bedroom house with a separate cottage, pool and garden is near two stations with London trains in just over an hour, so it would be a lovely commuter family home.

It’s £2.25 million through John D Wood.
