Rail improvements mean East Anglia is more popular than ever with London commuters.

Property is eye-catchingly cheaper than in the western home counties, with the Liverpool Street to Norwich line attracting most interest, according to estate agent Bidwells.

Despite the higher commuting costs, more than a third of buyers of main homes in Suffolk and Norfolk work in London.

Greater Anglia is introducing faster trains and adding 7,000 more seats per week, while journey times from Norwich to London are being cut to 90 minutes.

“While this is still a bit of a slog for daily commuters, we’re finding there are a lot of people moving from London who can work flexibly at home for a couple of days a week, which makes the difference,” says Bidwell’s Marc Langdon.

Norfolk has pretty villages, medieval market towns, good schools, rural and coastal landscapes and is a major economic growth area, thanks to the “Silicon Fen” cluster of bio and tech firms around Cambridge.

Norwich has a metropolitan vibe and is a Unesco City of Literature.

The Bridge, is a waterfront scheme five minutes’ walk from Norwich station, with two bedroom flats from £210,000.
