Donatella Versace has bought what may be the loveliest house in Italy — blush pink La Verbanella, which sits overlooking magnificent Lake Maggiore on the border with Switzerland.

The Italian fashion designer paid £4.6 million for the four-storey mansion that was bought in the Twenties by the Mondadori publishing family, whose glamorous guests, including Ernest Hemingway, Thomas Mann and Walt Disney, would sign the chimneypiece before they left.

The perfect party palace, it has 50 rooms, including 20 bedrooms.
