Soho House Berlin: deluxe design hotel is perfect for a whistle-stop city break

The latest outpost of the London club is not only packed with über-cool design, but also boasts a branch of Italian restaurant Cecconi's that's not to be missed...
Soho House Berlin covers eight floors of a restored Bauhaus building and features a gym, spa and rooftop terrace bar

A private members' club in the Soho House & Co family, known for its super-luxe design and famous clientele, Soho House Berlin is the height of luxury - set over eight floors of a grade II-listed building in the vibrant Mitte district.

Now, the newly opened Italian restaurant Cecconi's on the ground floor is also proving a hit with faithful fans and locals.

Londoners familiar with the brand will be pleased to hear that the new outpost remains loyal to the Cecconi design in Mayfair, but with a slick Berliner vibe.

Upstairs, Soho House Berlin's 65 bedrooms, 20 apartments and four spectacular lofts are attractions enough - not to mention the spa, gym, rooftop pool and Damien Hirst piece spray-painted on the lobby wall.

Mitte firm favourite: Cecconi's is loyal to the brand's recognisable design, with cherry-red leather booths and Art Deco-inspired chandeliers

Style:

High glamour and effortlessly cool. In the lobby, the open-plan minimalist interior (think concrete walls and graffiti on canvas) is mixed with splashes of colour and glittering chandeliers. The Hirst is eye-catching but avoids the ostentatiousness often associated with high art.

The Thirties-style decor in the studios and bedrooms give the impression of understated luxury, and the attention to detail is exemplary, but there's an overall feel of familarity and comfort - helped by the friendly staff.

Other facilities include a luxury spa, gym, seventh-floor club area (due to reopen on September 19 after renovations) and a rooftop bar with pool that offers splendid views towards Alexanderplatz.

City views: the rooftop pool and bar-terrace offer scenic views towards Alexanderplatz and beyond - no phones allowed though, Soho House rules

On the ground-floor of the Bauhaus building, in a space called The Store, Soho House has opened Cecconi's, a modern Italian restaurant that's open seven days a week. The restaurant continues the signature Cecconi design of its Mayfair, West Hollywood, Miami and Istanbul outposts, but this time with a fiery red colour palette.

The Art Deco-inspired chandeliers and striped marble floor are an elegant touch, with colour pops from the Italian cherry-red leather booths contrasting with the stripped-back Soho House interior.

The Soho House cocktails, with both locally sourced and Italian variations, and classic dishes by head chef Alessio Biangini are a must-try.
