House-hunting hedge-fund tycoon Ken Griffin today splashed the cash again, setting a US house purchase record as he became Sting’s neighbour.

The Citadel chief has bought several floors in a 79-storey tower that overlooks New York’s Central Park.

The $238 million (£183 million) deal follows his £95 million purchase of a mansion near Buckingham Palace.

The 50-year-old snapped up Carlton Gardens in St James’s this week.

The acquisitions are part of a $700 million global shopping spree on property.

This latest deal will see Griffin move into the same block as singer Sting and fellow hedgie Daniel Och.

Griffin began trading the markets from his dorm room at Harvard in the late Eighties and has built up his empire by focussing on so-called quantitative trading and tech.
