The wedding season is upon us and new housing developments offering extravagant communal spaces and leafy landscaping are becoming a popular choice both for ceremonies and receptions — especially with parents who have downsized and no longer have the room to host a big party.

Iconic backdrops are de rigueur for wedding photography, which is why Battersea Roof Gardens is set to become a venue of choice for well-heeled families in search of a memorable setting for the nuptials.

The gardens will overlook the giant Thirties Battersea Power Station and are being created by the designers of New York’s amazingly popular High Line gardens — which have transformed a disused elevated railway line running through Manhattan.

The new London roof garden will be among the largest in the capital and will stand alongside Frank Gehry-designed apartments at Prospect Place, which will include a 5,000sq ft residents’ lounge, big enough for a large wedding party, and where you can also hire a chef’s table, dining room, screening room and social lounge, and then spill out into private gardens.

Guests who have travelled far can be put up at the on-site hotel. Apartments start from £1.3 million, with service charges yet to be announced. Call 020 7501 0678.

The transparent “sky pool” topping neighbouring Embassy Gardens gets most of the attention at this Nine Elms development but, along with a shady orangery, residents have membership to the EG:LE club in the Ambassador Building. Now complete and 95 per cent occupied, Embassy Gardens has a private cinema and lounge area for hire, included in annual service charges of £5.34 per square foot. Suites start from £630,000. Call 020 7062 8940.

Tower Bridge and the river are in full view from the ground-floor lounge at Landmark Place, Water Lane, EC3, as more than 80 per cent of the building is glass. Henry VII was once entertained by his courtiers on this site. Residents can host small events at no extra cost at this City scheme which also has a cinema room and a landscaped piazza. Flats from £750,000. Call Barratt London on 020 7048 0344.

Directly overlooking Regent’s Park, flats at The Park Crescent are modern spaces behind a Grade I-listed stucco façade. Amazon Property’s Chris Lanitis says the Regency-inspired development is true to John Nash’s original blueprint “with a modern and luxurious twist”. City brides still want leafy backdrops and the 20 properties share eight acres of secluded gardens which retain Nash’s original layout. From £4.5 million. Call 020 7724 4724.

Chelsea Town Hall is a much-loved spot for smart city weddings, so an apartment nearby is perfect. Albion Riverside makes a great wedding venue with romantic Albert Bridge a guaranteed scene-stealer for truly memorable photos on the big day. The building’s 71ft x 31ft reception room can host a large group and a wraparound balcony with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooks the river and bridges. Flats at Albion Riverside are priced from about £1.2 million. Call H Barnes & Co on 020 7499 3434.
