A Knightsbridge mansion has become the most expensive UK home on the Airbnb holiday lettings website with a daily charge of up to £13,000.

The seven-bedroom, stucco-fronted townhouse on Princes Gate went up on the platform this week but does not appear to have secured any bookings yet.

The “wonderfully unique and spacious property” is billed as “ideal for a family stay, or a larger group” as it can sleep up to 14 people.

Guests face a “standard £2,000 cleaning charge” but are banned from having parties.

It had previously been listed for sale at £30 million but is now being offered for short-term lets by management firm Flexystays, which promises to provide a “welcome ambassador” to offer assistance at check-in.

The house is nearly twice as expensive as other high-end options on Airbnb, which include a three-bedroom apartment near Sloane Square at £7,218 a night including fees, an eight-bed mansion on the corner of Cheyne Place in Chelsea (£6,350 a night), and a six-bed house in Belgravia (£6,640 a night).

The 9,400 sq ft house is arranged over seven storeys and features include a wrought-iron grand staircase, cinema room, five bathrooms, air conditioning and a terrace “overlooking the hustle and bustle of one of London’s most opulent areas.”

The peak daily rate is a basic charge of £9,450 plus the £2,000 cleaning charge and a service fee of £1,772 making £13,222 in total, according to the Primeresi.com website.

It works out at 777 times more expensive than the cheapest London listing on Airbnb, a £17-a-night bed in a St Pancras hostel.

Visitors looking to spend more on a single night’s stay in London than at the mansion would have to book one of the most extravagant hotel suites.

The seven-bed Royal Suite at The Lanesborough at Hyde Park Corner is currently the most expensive at £26,000 a night. It comes with its own butler and Rolls-Royce Phantom on standby.

The Dome Penthouse in the Cafe Royal Hotel in Regent Street is on Airbnb for £15,821 per night.
