Arsenal fell to a 3-2 defeat to Aston Villa as they stepped up their preparations for the new Premier League season in a behind closed doors friendly on Saturday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continued his fine pre-season form with two goals at the Emirates with Mesut Ozil also featuring.

A brace from Jacob Ramsey and one from Douglas Luiz sealed victory for Villa.

Arsenal are yet to release details of Saturday's clash but summer signing Willian also received a run out alongside Dani Ceballos, who sealed his return to north London from Real Madrid on Friday.

Villa's official website reports Luiz gave the visitors the lead before Aubameyang registered his first of the afternoon.

Ramsey restored Villa's lead before they were again pegged back by the Gabon international - this time from the penalty spot.

Arsenal fell to their first defeat of pre-season when Ramsey struck again.

Arsenal shipped three goals for the second pre-season contest in a row after beating QPR 4-3 on Wednesday.

The Gunners begin their Premier League campaign away to Fulham on Saturday September 12.
