M&S launches its first alcohol-free G&T in a can

It’s officially picnic season which only means one thing: it's also the peak time of year for alcoholic tin cans, too.

Luckily, for those of us staying off the juice, M&S has released its first-ever alcohol-free gin and tonic in a can.

Made from a mix of fragrant botanicals like juniper, coriander, lemon balm, cardamom and angelica, mixed with a refreshing tonic, M&S claims the alcohol-free version tastes ‘just like the real thing’.

Each 250ml can retails for £1.50 a pop and the botanicals used in the drink are from Edinburgh-based distillery, The Old Curiosity.

Jenny Rea, M&S Drinks Product Developer said: “This alcohol-free G&T tastes just like the real thing. All the flavours are there, from the juniper notes to those fragrant botanicals that add to that classic gin taste. It is truly delicious.

“I am sure it is going to be a huge hit with customers – at Christmas 2018 we launched a larger bottle of this no alcohol G&T that proved so popular with customers – we kept it on as a permanent fixture in our food halls – customers loved it!”

Alcohol-free drinks have seen a steady rise in popularity over the past decade, with a 2020 Portman Group study finding that 23 per cent of alcohol drinkers would consider switching to low alcohol/alcohol-free alternatives this year.
