100mph shoot-out on M4

A man was today being questioned by police after a high-speed motorway chase, in which shots were fired.

The man, in his twenties and from London, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm after two cars collided as they left the eastbound carriageway of the M4 at junction 8/9 in Maidenhead, Berkshire, at 6pm on Saturday.

Drivers said they heard shots fired between the BMW and Mercedes, which had been travelling at up to 100mph while weaving through traffic, and saw two white men running from the BMW and three black men running from the Mercedes.

Police are investigating whether they belong to rival drug gangs.
