12-year-old uses girl power to see off intruder

12 April 2012

A girl aged 12 was praised today for sending an intruder fleeing after she kicked him in the groin.

Georgia Bulis-Gray was at home alone when she heard a door slam and found a hooded man standing in the kitchen. She told the Brighton Argus: "He sort of smiled at me and I thought, I don't want him thinking I'm just a helpless little girl.' It made me angry.

"He looked shocked I hadn't screamed and run away. I kicked him and he sort of groaned and then ran out of the side gate."

Georgia, of Bosham, near Chichester, then helped police by sketching the intruder, who has not been caught.

Her mother Joanna Bulis, 48, who had been out delivering catalogues when the man broke in, said she had taught her daughter to protect herself. "It was instinctive. She's not a shrinking violet. I'm proud of her."
