13 dead as US is hit by heatwave

A heatwave has killed 13 people in America, with temperatures exceeding 54C.

The National Weather Service has put 18 states from Montana to West Virginia under a heat warning with the heat index - a combination of temperature and humidity - topping 100F.

The heat is expected to move east in the next few days.
