As she emerged in a stunning black outfit last night, her fans were delighted to see her in England.

And for Angelina Jolie, the feeling was mutual.

The actress, appearing at the premiere of the Lara Croft sequel Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, has not been having the happiest of times at home in the U.S. of late.

With an acrimonious marriage split only just behind her and a bitter feud with her famous father raging on, she might have been forgiven for feeling a little jaded.

But she enthusiastically embarked on an hour-long walkabout in Leicester Square.

The 28-year-old Oscar-winner, who recently split from second husband, Billy Bob Thornton, wore a Vera Wang evening dress - and displayed her array of exotic tattoos - as she was greeted by her admirers.

She then announced that she was moving to England, saying: 'It is one of my ambitions to go to school here and I intend to fulfil that before the end of the year.

'This welcome has been amazing and I want to introduce my son Maddox to all kinds of different cultures.'

During the evening she came face to face with six-year-old Lauren Goodwin, who had dressed as the star's character, Lara Croft. In The Cradle of Life the intrepid Lara jet-skis, motorcycles, drives a Jeep and rides horses in such exotic places as Hong Kong, Kenya, Tanzania and Greece.

Her character's aim is to save the world. In her private life, salvaging her relationship with her father Jon Voight is looking an equally tough task.

Last night Miss Jolie declined to comment on the feud. While the reason for start of the fall-out is unknown, earlier this month she cut all ties with Voight saying she no longer regarded herself as his daughter.

Voight split with Miss Jolie's mother when she was a baby. The pair did not communicate for many years but were eventually reconciled and even acted together in the first Tomb Raider film.

However, the warming of relations was short lived and last year Voight publicly appealed to his daughter to 'seek help'.
