Activists held before Moscow U2 concert

Moscow police detained five Amnesty International activists who were handing out leaflets before a U2 concert "without authorisation".

They were urging concert-goers to sign petitions pressing Russian authorities to bring to justice the murderers of journalist Anna Politkovskaya and rights activist Natalya Estemirova. They were released after a few hours.

The head of the rights group's Moscow office, Sergei Nikitin, said the rock band's management had assured them that all permits were in place.
