Airports still finding dangerous luggage

About 15,000 sharp objects are being confiscated every day from hand luggage at airports in the South-East.

Despite warnings urging passengers not to carry dangerous items in hand baggage,

2.5 million objects have been taken from passengers at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted since 11 September, airport operator BAA said.

BAA warned it could lead to flights being delayed.

"People often don't realise they are carrying these items," said a spokeswoman for Gatwick airport. A spokesman for Stansted said the airport confiscated dangerous items and many were destroyed.
