Albanian guilty over riot

13 April 2012

An Albanian asylum seeker was today found guilty of taking part in a riot that caused tens of millions of pounds worth of damage at an immigration centre.

Behr Limani, 26, was found guilty of violent disorder at Yarl's Wood Detention Centre in Bedfordshire in February 2002.

The jury at Harrow Crown Court, north London, is still considering verdicts on three other detainees.

Limani was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at a later date.

The jurors, who have been deliberating for a week, were told today they could reach a majority verdict on the remaining defendants - Kayode Abdul, 24, Jgergi Tuka, 25 and Lucky Jacobs, 23, who each deny violent disorder.

Yesterday, Nigerian Henry Momodou, 39, was found guilty of violent disorder but not guilty of arson.

He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the end of the trial.
