Tube bosses were today urged to halt plans to enable mobile phones to work in deep tunnels amid fears they could be used by terrorists to set off a bomb.

Simon Hughes, the Lib-Dem London mayoral candidate, said: "Mobile phones are now a cheap and effective long-range detonator. Texting is a luxury, security it not." LU said no decision has yet been reached on extending the Tube's mobile phone network.
