Amazing pictures as sea eagles spar furiously over a fish dinner

13 April 2012

They may be birds of a feather, but these ferocious sea eagles are in full combat mode as they do battle over a tasty morsel.

The ravenous birds of prey were photographed tussling in mid-air after one of them catches a fish.

The catch: But a rival is coming in fast

Mid-air clash: The birds of prey close for battle

Claws outstretched, one of the white-breasted sea eagles comes in like a dive bomber to wrest the meal from its rival's grasp.

The attacker succeeds in dislodging the fish - but fumbles and fails to grab hold.

Dinner seems to slip away suddenly to the sea below as the hungry raptors hang in mid-air above Seven Mile Beach near Forster, New South Wales, Australia.

Whoops! The battling birds fumble over the prize

Salvage! One of the eagles spots the fallen fish and makes a rush for it

But all is not lost - at least for the more sharp-eyed of the pair.

The lucky sea eagle is snapped as it comes soaring in at the surfline just where the fish has landed.

Its undercarriage is extended for a final, victorious grab ... and dinner is served.

All mine! The victor flies off with the spoils of war
