Any slope will do in pursuit of perfect piste

With the big thaw on its way, it looks like some skiers are going to extreme lengths to find the best of the remaining snow.

Hertfordshire ski instructor Peter Gillespie took to the rooftop of the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead yesterday in pursuit of the perfect piste.

The centre is filled with artificial snow along its 160-metre indoor run, and Mr Gillespie says he couldn't resist the challenge when friends suggested there was nearly as much snow on the roof as there was inside.

"It just had to be done," he said. Luckily Mr Gillespie finished his impromptu session unhurt after several runs down the building's roof.
