12 April 2012

AOL Time Warner has replaced the head of its America Online unit, amid growing investor concerns about its growth. The US media giant said Barry Schuler would step aside, to take on other duties developing digital services.

The group's chief operating officer-elect, Robert Pittman, will take over. He ran America Online prior to its merger with Time Warner in 2000.

America Online has been struggling to shift its more than 30m subscribers from slow dial-up connection to high speed broadband links.

Schuler took charge in January 2001, following the the merger. Before that, he headed the Interactive Services Group at America Online, where he was responsible for the flagship AOL service, Netscape Communications and CompuServe.
