Arrest in torso murder hunt

A man was arrested today by police hunting the killer of a woman whose dismembered torso was found in a canal.

Officers seized the man after a tip-off. The arrest came after a police hunt for the tenant of a council flat in Highbury where the body was dismembered.

A forensic science team has spent the last 24 hours searching the one-bedroom flat. Neighbours say the occupant of the flat has attracted trouble in recent years, prompting several visits from police. A few weeks ago a distressed woman was seen running from the flat.

The torso - that of a black woman aged between 18 and 30 - was found in a suitcase in Regent's Canal on Saturday.
