Artists' pop-up gardens get green light

12 April 2012

Six pop-up gardens created by teams of artists and designers will be built across London next year.

The Cityscapes project will install them along the South Bank and Bankside with the help of the Old Vic Tunnels, Tate Modern, Imperial War Museum, Design Museum, National Theatre and Architecture Foundation.

They will be in place between May 19 and September 9, a period which encompasses the Chelsea Fringe festival, the Olympics and the Thames Festival.

The designers have not yet been named but Cityscapes says they will include "famous names from the creative worlds of architecture, art, fashion, theatre, music and dance".

Its director Darryl Moore said: "Visitors will be able to interact with the designs as they grow and change."
