At 6ft 2in, it’s probably time Kyle, 11, went to big school

A schoolboy from south London is set to become one of the tallest people in Britain as he towers over his friends at a height of 6ft 2in — at the age of 11.

At 12 months, Kyle Best was the size of the average four-year-old, and when his mother Lorna took him for vaccinations three years later, nurses remarked that he was the size of a seven-year-old. At the age of eight, he overtook Lorna, who is 5ft 5in.

Kyle, from Norbury, is now wearing adult-sized clothes and size 11 shoes. The average height for his age is 4ft 7in. But, as he prepares to start secondary school next month, he says he is comfortable with his height.

"I'm taller than my friends but it does not matter," he said. "If things get stuck in high places, like a ball, I can reach them. It means I can go on all the rides at fairs as well. I'm also good at basketball and a good goalie at football — so I like my height."

Britain's tallest teenager was Paul Sturgess from Loughborough. Mr Sturgess, who is now 22, was 7ft 7in at the age of 19.
