Autonomy beats forecasts with £3m

SOFTWARE firm Autonomy has beaten market forecasts with a sharp rise in first quarter earnings and says it is well placed to take advantage of an upturn.

Autonomy, which develops software that sorts and analyses data, saw its pre-tax profit jump to $4.2m (£3.02m) in three months ended March 31 from $2.7m in the previous quarter. Sales rose to $14.08m from $13.48m.

Adjusted earnings per share was three US cents in the quarter versus one cent. Analysts were forecasting a $3.1m profit on $14m revenue.
