13 April 2012

Comedian Peter Kay is celebrating the birth of his first baby. His wife Susan gave birth to 7lb 3oz Charlie Michael by Caesarean section in a hospital in Kay's home town of Bolton.

Phoenix Nights star Kay said: "Susan and I are both over the moon. Mother and baby are thankfully doing very well."

The 30-year-old met shop worker Susan in a club and they married three years ago.

He is one of Britain's best-loved comics thanks to Channel 4 series Phoenix Nights, his John Smith's beer ads and his successful stand-up shows.

Kay's next TV appearance will be a cameo role in Coronation Street, playing a cellarman called Eric who goes on a disastrous date with landlady Shelley.

He is also working on a Phoenix Nights spin-off featuring the show's bouncers Max and Paddy.
