Baby P grandmother hopes daughter will 'rot in hell'

Baby Peter's grandmother said her daughter deserved to "rot in hell" for her part in the toddler's death.

Mary O'Connor, 59, said Tracey Connelly and her lover Steven Barker would have "nowhere to hide" now that a court order banning their identification had expired.

In an interview with The Sun newspaper, she said: "It has made me so angry that they were able to hide behind the court order.

"Now everyone will know who they are and what they have done.

"They killed my grandson and deserve everything coming to them."

She continued: "I haven't got any sympathy for her at all. Maybe now she will feel fear and understand what my grandson went through as he was being tortured to death.

"She robbed me of my grandson. My heart is broken and I'll never forgive her for that. I can't."

Ms O'Connor, who has disowned her daughter, added: "She got off lightly with a minimum of five years. It won't be long until she's out living her life again. She sent me a visiting order but I couldn't stand to be in the same room as her. She can rot in hell."

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, the father of Steven and Jason Barker said he was horrified by Baby Peter's suffering at the hands of his sons.

"What they did was awful and they deserve to be punished," he said.

"I don't care what happens to them. Everyone thinks they are monsters and I don't think any different."
