Bankruptcies soar to 10-year high

THE number of Britons going bankrupt rose by 6.3% to 8662 during the second quarter - the highest for 10 years and a 14% increase on a year ago, according to figures from the Department of Trade and Industry.

The number of firms going bust rose by 4.7% to 3843, but was 6.9% lower than a year ago.
