Barclays Global is star of awards

13 April 2012

SEVERAL hundred fund managers lunched at Guildhall today to mark the second annual Awards for Excellence in Institutional Asset Management run by Financial News.

Overall winner by some way was Barclays Global Investors, which has moved from purely passive into active and hedge fund management.

Sir Howard Davies, former head of the Financial Services Authority, lost out on the personality of the year award to the scourge of the US investment banks Eliot Spitzer.

Alan Brown of State Street Global won the chief investment officer award for the second year running, pipping Sharon Fay of Alliance Bernstein at the post.

Investment consultant of the year was Mercer, just ahead of Watson Wyatt. Baillie Gifford picked up the UK Asset Manager and Active Equity manager awards. Man Group won the Fund of Hedge Funds award.
