BBC boss: No plan to rebrand 6 Music

BBC radio boss Tim Davie said there are "no plans" to rebrand threatened station 6 Music.

The director of audio and music had talked of finding a home for some shows on other stations. But in a blog, he wrote that there was no plan to revamp 6 Music, which has been earmarked for closure in a strategy review, as "Radio 2 Extra".

Davie wrote: "Let me make it clear that, while we have proposed rebranding Radio 7 as Radio 4 Extra, there are no such plans for 6 Music."

He said "nothing will happen" until a consultation by the BBC Trust into the review had closed: "I said we would look at protecting some 6 Music programming by redeploying it elsewhere and considering how we can also do justice to its legacy in areas like new music development. This commitment also remains."
