April-September: Cricket

Cricinfo
In-depth cricket news and views from Glamorgan to Zimbabwe. Get SMS alerts for your international team every time a wicket falls and a summary of the score at the end of each day's play. At 20p per message, an England collapse could prove costly.

31 May-30 June: FIFA 2002 World Cup

Yahoo: Fifaworldcup
The fast-loading official site lets fans check out England's opposition and vote for the best goal in World Cup history. The video clips of classic matches load very slowly, even via broadband. The Official World Cup 2002 Song, Boom, performed by Anastacia, is worth a listen.

This Is London
Everybody's favourite London website will be following the World Cup with a dedicated section - including news, match reports, regular updates and special features.

8 June: Lewis v Tyson

Sportinglife.com
The Sporting Life has the latest news and pre-fight analysis, and fact files detailing both boxers' careers. Tyson's file spends more time detailing his misdemeanours outside the ring than his performances inside it. Don't expect to see much of the fight online - Sky will charge a fortune as usual.

7-8 June: The Epsom Derby

Discover Racing
If you think Burlington Bertie is someone who makes sweets and double carpet is what you lay when you have bumpy floorboards, this is the site for you. It explains everything from betting basics to how to arrange a day at the races, and has a detailed overview of Britain's 59 racecourses.

24 June-7 July: Wimbledon

Wimbledon.org
The All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club gives us a video vault featuring clips from the past few years. Sadly, the video window is so small that you can't see the ball and the links to larger clips for fast internet connections don't work. Oh, well - at least you can check out the employment section and find out how you can get in without a ticket by becoming a court attendant or cleaner. Nearer the time, This Is London will be covering the event in detail.

7 July: British Grand Prix

Daily F1
The current Formula 1 season has turned into something of a one-family race, with the Schumachers first and second in the Drivers' Championship. Daily F1 keeps you up to speed with the latest news and views. You can get a running text commentary but no multimedia, no matter how fast your connection. And don't forget This Is London 's dedicated Grand Prix section.

18 July: The Open Championship

Open Golf.com .
Find out what Tiger Woods is up to on the official Open site, which promises to provide a detailed course map with fly-by video footage. You'll be able to download a desktop scorecard that's updated with the latest scores.

25 July-4 August: Commonwealth Games

Commonwealthgames.com
The organisers claim the 27th Commonwealth Games is the most significant multi-sport event to be held in the UK since the 1948 Olympics. You wouldn't believe it from the website, which parades the nine corporate sponsors' logos before anything else. Instead, try bbc.co.uk/manchester/2002 , and tune in to BBC 2002 Commonwealth Games radio between 6.30am and 6pm for news, views and music. Plus, check out The Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay Route, which will visit 500 UK cities between 6 June and 25 July.

27-29 September: The Ryder Cup

Rydercup.com
Postponed in the wake of 11 September, The Ryder Cup remains one of the most exciting sporting events, even if you don't like golf. The impressive official site lets you view the build-up from both a European and US perspective, and there'll be a real-time scoreboard throughout the event.
