BoJ stands ground after shares surge

THE Bank of Japan kept its monetary policy unchanged today, a widely expected move following a surge in share prices and a string of data showing the economy improving. Rising long-term interest rates had prompted speculation in recent weeks that the BoJ might act. The bank has eased policy twice since Toshihiko Fukui took over as Governor in March.
