Boris Johnson: Get tough on knife crime

Boris Johnson today called for tougher knife crime sentences to following the stabbing of two police officers in Ealing.

The Mayor said: "I want to see knife crime carry a very, very heavy sentence. And I want it to be clear to people that if they do carry a knife and are willing to use [it] as an offensive weapon they should face the really tough penalties."

His words put him at odds with Justice Secretary Kenneth Clarke, who rowed back on Tory pledges to make all knife crime an imprisonable offence.
