Boris Johnson: Foreign Secretary speaks Italian in Parliament

Foreign Secretary: Boris Johnson breaks into Italian at the dispatches box
Saphora Smith18 October 2016

Boris Johnson broke into Italian at the dispatch box in the House of Commons saying "all Italians are welcome in London".

His outburst came in response to a question from Alberto Costa, the Conservative MP for South Leicestershire, who asked for assurances that Italians will be able to remain in the UK after Brexit.

Responding in broken Italian the Foreign Secretary said: "All Italians are welcome in London."

Returning to English, Mr Johnson added that EU citizens would be able to remain in the UK but there was a need for for British citizens living on the continent to be offered the same treatment.

This is not the first time Mr Johnson has showed off his linguistic skills in public.

During the EU referendum campaign in May he sang Ode to Joy in German in an attempt to prove that he is a liberal cosmpolitan.

Mr Johnson was speaking during an organised audience in the House of Commons where Members of Parliament can put questions to the Foreign Secretary.
