Bosnich held over 'attack'

Sophie Anderton: treated in hospital

Soccer star Mark Bosnich has been arrested after an alleged attack on his ex-girlfriend, the underwear model Sophie Anderton.

The former Chelsea goalkeeper was questioned by police after the couple were involved in a row last night at Bosnich's Knightsbridge flat which left Anderton, 26, needing hospital treatment for bruising.

The argument blew up after the model, who recently suffered a nervous breakdown, arrived at the flat to collect some belongings. The couple parted last month after a series of high-profile rows.

Their tempestuous relationship had been overshadowed by Anderton's addiction to alcohol and drugs. Australian Bosnich, who also played for Manchester United, was fired by Chelsea after testing positive for cocaine last year.

He later lost an appeal against a nine-month ban despite his plea that his drink had been spiked.

Police were called to the flat at about 6.30pm after reports of a domestic disturbance. Anderton was treated at nearby Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and discharged soon afterwards. Bosnich, who is understood to have f led the scene, was arrested around 90 minutes later.

A Met spokesman said a woman was treated for bruising, and added: "Police were called to reports of an alleged assault of a man on a woman. The woman is said to have bruising on her body. A man was arrested at 8.05pm and questioned at Notting Hill police station."

Bosnich was bailed to return to police on 4 December pending further inquiries.

Anderton, the former face of Gossard bras, had a breakdown in July and recently lost the baby she had been expecting with Bosnich. Earlier this year she checked into a clinic in America in a bid to beat her addictions.

A friend said: "She hadn't spoken to him for a couple of weeks. She just wanted to talk about their relationship and collect some belongings."

Bosnich had reportedly been trying to win Anderton back.
