A schoolboy filmed his own death when a Jackass-style stunt went wrong, an inquest has heard.

Daniel Fox had been sitting on a seat taped onto the handlebars of his friend's mountain bike and using his mobile phone to record the pair speeding down a steep hill at up to 40mph.

The 13-year-old was killed instantly when the two boys smashed into a lamp-post as the bike flew out of control.

Ben Trew, 14, survived the horrific smash, but is still in hospital recovering from massive head injuries, four months after the fatal crash in their home town of High Wycombe, Bucks.

The stunt was similar to those performed by the makers of the controversial Jackass films, in which young men do dangerous and painful things on camera.

One witness, businessman Terry Collins, told the inquest he saw the boys riding down The Pastures.

"The bicycle was travelling very fast, maybe as much as 40mph - far too quick for a cycle," he said.

"As it passed, both boys had excitement on their faces. There was no fear at all, they were just totally ecstatic."

Mr Collins drove on but saw in his rear view mirror that the bike had crashed into the kerb and fallen over.

Buckinghamshire Coroner Richard Hulett recorded a verdict of accidental death.
