Boy of 15 stabbed through the heart for being a 'chav'

13 April 2012

A boy of 15 collapsed dying from knife wounds after an attack by a young couple who called him a chav'. Dale Little was standing outside a shopping centre with friends when a girl shouted the insult at him and hit him on the head with a piece of wood.

When he tried to push her away, she rang her boyfriend on her mobile phone. Within moments he arrived and told Dale: "I'm going to stab you."

He began punching the teenager – then stabbed him through the heart with a 6in flick knife. The attack happened on Saturday evening outside a Tesco Express store in Totton, near Southampton. Dale, from Totton, was taken to hospital where he died soon afterwards.

A friend, 16-year-old Lee Percy, said: "There were seven of us stood outside the shop and this drunk girl started walking past and calling us chavs.

"She tried to hit Dale with a block of wood so he just held her back. She got really angry and phoned her boyfriend on her mobile and the next thing we knew, he had turned up.

"He started a fight with Dale and then he just stabbed him. I saw a flick knife fall to the floor.

"He seemed to be okay but he collapsed and we realised he'd been stabbed. There was blood everywhere."

Yesterday shocked friends described Dale, a pupil of Testwood Secondary School in Totton, as "a really nice person".

Emma Hazell, 17, said: "He was just so nice and quiet. He was a good friend, well-liked and popular. I can't believe it. You hear about these things but you don't think it will ever happen to your friend."

Dale's parents, Angela and Gary, were too upset to speak about his death at the family home. His girlfriend, Danielle, 14, was also too upset to speak but later left a framed photograph of them together at the scene of the stabbing.

By lunchtime yesterday more than 30 bunches of flowers had been laid outside the store. Teenagers, many in tears, hugged each other at the scene.

A family had also left flowers with a note attached saying: "To Dale, thanks for being you mate! Will miss you loads. Love you mate, love from Auntie Ali, Uncle Pete, Cosey, Ashley and Sophie."

Police said a 20-year-old man from Lyndhurst in the New Forest, had been arrested on suspicion of murder. A girl of 17 from Totton was held on suspicion of affray.
