Boy stabbed at Damilola centre

A teenage boy was injured in a knife attack at a youth centre dedicated to the memory of murdered 10-year-old Damilola Taylor.

The 17-year-old was stabbed in the neck with a kitchen knife during an argument with another youth at the Damilola Taylor Centre in Peckham, opened to help reduce tension between young people.

The victim is in a serious condition, although his injuries are not life-threatening. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Brooker said there was no suggestion the violence was gang-related. The attacker is believed to have taken the knife into the centre before the attack at 1.30pm yesterday.

Damilola was stabbed on a Peckham estate near the centre. A number of youths were charged with his murder but the case collapsed.

A 14-year-old boy arrested in connection with yesterday's attack is being questioned at a south London police station.
