British man and woman jailed in Dubai for adultery

Ed Harris12 April 2012

A British man and woman were each jailed for two months in Dubai today for adultery, it was reported.

Mother-of-two Sally Antia, 44, was detained last month after her husband reportedly tipped off police, accusing her of having an affair and claiming she was in a five-star hotel with her lover.

She was arrested with Mark Hawkins, 43, as they left the Radisson Blu Hotel near Dubai creek on 2 May.

According to reports, Antia, who has been married for 14 years and has lived in Dubai for more than a decade, is locked in a custody battle with her husband Vincent, 48, over their two daughters. He is seeking a divorce.

Antia pleaded guilty to adultery but Hawkins denied the allegation.

During an interview with Sky News from Bur Dubai police station yesterday, Hawkins shook uncontrollably and repeatedly asked: "Have you seen Sally? How is Sally?" He said it was difficult to get information as all the guards spoke only Arabic.

The case comes after British mother Marnie Pearce, 40, was released from a Dubai jail after a three-month sentence for adultery. The teacher lost custody of her sons, Laith, eight, and Ziad, four, in February.
