Sarah Michelle Gellar is quitting cult television series Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

She has told the show's creator Joss Whedon she will not be back for an eighth season of the sci-fi show.

Gellar, 25, the kickboxing heroine who fights the forces of evil in dry-ice-filled graveyards,will now concentrate on her big-screen career after signing up for films including Romantic Comedy and Scooby-Doo Too.
