Car fraudster hid evidence with help from lawyer

12 April 2012

A solicitor walked free from court after admitting helping a £850,000 fraudster hide evidence.

Jenny Liu, 40, passed notes from her client, Aaron Moore, to his girlfriend telling her to remove incriminating material from his house in Homerton.

Moore, 23, was sentenced to five and a half years for a racket involving 48 vehicles bought via the internet. Liu, of Barking, admitted perverting the course of justice and received a 12-month sentence suspended for two years.

Blackfriars crown court heard that over six months until April last year, Moore contacted people selling cars with outstanding finance on them.

If the price of the vehicle was less than the debt, Moore would offer to settle the victim's account with the finance company on their behalf. The victim would then pay him the difference in cash between the car's price and the amount Moore had paid the financiers.

Moore would sell the cars on for cash before his payment to the financiers bounced, leaving the sellers liable for the full debts.

After meeting Moore at Camberwell magistrates' court, Liu delivered two notes to Patience Bature, who along with Moore's sister Kelita, removed Sim cards, phones, car documents and cash from his home.

Bature, 23 of Hornchurch, and Kelita Moore, 24, of Homerton, received suspended sentences after being convicted of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Aaron Moore admitted conspiracy to defraud and
perverting the course of justice.
