Car pair in level crossing escape

A mother and her teenage daughter escaped unharmed when their car was crushed and shunted 40ft after being hit by a train as they drove over a level crossing.

The mother, who was driving, opened her door and jumped out - escaping unhurt but shocked. Her daughter, 16, who was in the passenger seat, suffered chest and pelvic injuries after being crushed by one of the train's buffers during the incident at about 5pm yesterday at Shiplake station, Oxon.
